Staycation Vol. 1: Fort Victoria, BGC

Staycation - Fort Victoria

Have you ever been in one of those moods where one day, you’re cool as a daisy, and the next you’re stressed about everything and nothing at the same time? Maybe it’s because I’m experiencing quarter-life crisis, too. Since the start of the year, I’ve been planning a staycation to relax and just chill and not have to do chores. At the same time, my high school best friends and I are planning to have a summer outing. Knowing how hard it is to do an out of town trip that actually happens, I suggested we just do a staycation. They agreed.

It was Thursday, May 4 when we decided we’re a go on a staycation that weekend. Imagine that. Only two days left! A lot of the AirBNB apartments I was eyeing were already booked on that date, but I managed to land Rupert’s apartment. It was a two-level unit located in Fort Victoria, BGC, Taguig City. Two levels! Yey! It won’t be stuffy at all. It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, fully functioning kitchen, free Netflix, wi-fi, and a swimming pool. What more could I ask for? The price was a bit up there, but for the space and location, it was so worth it.

We arrived around 3:20 PM. Our host met us in the lobby and chatted us up while he went with us to the elevator and to the unit. He gave us a quick tour of the place and explained that he was just right next door.

Guys, if I ever end up being moderately rich in this lifetime, this is how I would like my place to look like. Or at least, this size in this layout in this kind of location. You can see more of what the apartment looks like in here. Below are some glimpses of it.

First order of business was to… eat. We go down to the lobby where we spotted a Family Mart and grabbed some snacks. We also bought fresh milk for the carbonara best friend #1 was making.

As soon as we got back up, BFF#1 started making carbonara (insert heart eye emoji) and I went and played Mr. and Mrs. Smith on Netflix. Because our plan for this whole staycation is to Netflix and eat, I also ordered us two boxers of pizza and chicken.

It was around 6 PM when the carbonara was cooked and the pizza has arrived. We have our first official pig-out of the night. BFF#1 went up to sleep shortly after since she came from a graveyard shift of work from Friday. BFF#2 and I went on to start binge-watching 13 Reasons Why. We also got our second serving of carbonara around Tape 3.

By 1 AM, I was kind of out of it. I said goodnight to BFF#2 and went up to the other unoccupied room. It took me another half hour to fell asleep, since I was too busy staring at the skylines, enjoying the really comfy bed and the silence. I love that the friendships I have now doesn’t require much talking. We still haven’t really got caught up with each other – just ate, and watched TV side by side and we’ve been here for around 10 hours now.

I suddenly found myself awake around 4AM. I went downstairs and BFF#2 is still watching 13RW. It’s almost Clay’s tape. We didn’t talk. I was half-watching, half-using my laptop to leech off the fast internet and download movies. We didn’t talk until the series ended. Then we did. We talked about not-pretty things, about sad things in high school, in college, and everywhere else. We talked as the sun rises up and we watch it through the wide windows behind us.

By 5AM, we figured out BFF#1 is already up and we annoyed her to come down. Here’s where we talked to each other. BFF#1 reheated carbonara from last night – it was one of the best I’ve eaten – and fried the remaining bacon from the carbonara. We didn’t even go to the swimming pool anymore. We were just lazing in the couch, endless food on our lap, and chattered about what’s up lately. This is very nice. I love these girls.

Our check-out was by 11AM, and I didn’t want to leave. This was a good break from the “real world”, but I know I have to go. I left the keys in the cable and we all said goodbye to our first staycation. This won’t be our last.

I’m interested in the place! It looks like a home away from home. Will definitely check this out on AirBNB when I fly to Manila. Thanks, Richel! <3

The skyline was nice. If only our room was facing another way, we might have gotten a glimpse of the sunset!

Aweh, I’m sure you will recover from your quarter life crisis soon! I feel like I’m half-experiencing and becoming frustrated with that phase now that I’ll be graduating college soon and I’m still trying to figure out where I want things to go. A staycation w friends sound amazing, and tbh I think I’d be doing exactly what you guys were doing- binge watching shows/movies, pigging out, sleeping, and talking things out. ^^” That’s a really nice airbnb place- I love airbnbs so much and can’t wait for mine in Japan in 2 weeks! 🙂 All the best! X

Two long weekends! For students, mostly. But I appreciate the lack of traffic. I can’t wait on doing another staycation on my birthday month. <3

It is very modern, and it’s just a few minutes walk from high street! We can see the lively parts of Taguig even in the very early morning.

Looked at the airbnb and man, I want a 2 level condo!!! It’s space-y for a future family someday. This post made me miss my girlfriends as well. In friendship talaga, there’s no neutral. It’s either silence or non-stop chatting.

Staycations are the best! And I also have friendships where we can spend a week together, holed in a condo and just watch Netflix without finding the need to fill the silence. That’s the kind of friendships you keep and cherish!

Haven’t tried going for AirBnB around Manila bc I didn’t feel the need to do so. But after reading your experience, parang gusto ko na rin i-try. Haha.
I’m all for low maintenance friendships din where you can just hang out, not talk all the time, and still be comfortable with each other’s silence, tbh.

Searching for Airbnbs is my past-time (heh), but I never tried booking yet here in Manila for a staycation. And same, I often go out with my bestfriend and for most times, we would stay in the same room or a coffee shop and not talk and just do our own things. Together. It’s good enough to just feel the presence.

I love it! Maybe next time I’m in the mood for a staycation we’ll scout for AirBNB places here in Cebu for a change from the usual hotels.

And yes to friendships that don’t require much talking.:)

I like the homey feels of apartment more than hotels – but I do miss the common free buffet breakfast from hotels, lol.

This looks like such a relaxing and wonderful way to spend time with friends! And you’re right, that apartment is GORGEOUS. I’ve never stayed in an AirBNB but I really want to because all of the photos look so cool and definitely a lot better than those boring chain hotels! I liked the end of your blog post, too. “This won’t be our last.” So happy you had a good time! 🙂

It’s a guilty pleasure of mine to search through the pretty apartments in Airbnb. Hundreds look exactly out of Pinterest! I can’t wait for the next staycation. I already have lots of apartments saved in my AirBNB account.

I love the idea of a stay-cation. I think they can be so much more relaxed than going somewhere foreign where you feel you have to go see stuff and get your money’s worth. It sounds like you had valuable time with your friends too.

Yes, exactly! With trips, you have to go out and explore. With staycation, you’ll literally be indoors 90% of the time and just spend it interacting with family and friends, or enjoying some nice, quiet me time.

It sounds like you had an amazing time and I have to say, this airbnb sounds amazing, I can’t believe it comes with a swimming pool and free Netflix, that’s just the dream! Friendships that doesn’t require much talking are the best ones, it feels great to be so comfortable around a person that silence isn’t awkward. 13 reasons why is one of these series you just have to binge-watching, it is so addictive. Although a bit like Clay, I had to stop at times because it was so overwhelming. xx

The Netflix was a dream plus the stable internet connection! I feel like the silence was best because of what we were watching as well. With these girls, we can just be quiet or talking non-stop the next minute. My favorite kind of friendship.
