Dropping by Haji Lane, Singapore

Haji Lane, Singapore

There’s been a point in my blog-hopping that I landed on posts about Haji Lane which is located in Bugis, Singapore. It’s basically a shopper’s paradise, hidden away in a tiny lane at Bugis. The colorful, pastel establishments and cute, unique finds on those posts made me think, “Hey, I must go here!” And I did.

After visiting Chinatown, we took the MRT to Bugis station. Upon exiting the MRT station, we came across this mall with the interiors making me think of European influence. I also have a thing with white, light walls so I loved it. We walked to Bugis Street afterwards where we had a few bites and had some fruit juices. There was so many interesting items in here, like sand that you can shape to whatever and it’ll hold. We weren’t there to shop though so we left after eating.

We then turned to Google Maps to find out where Haji Lane is exactly. You think I would learn from being lost because of Google Maps back in Hong Kong, but I didn’t. My fault. The map shows it was only ten minutes away but I think it was closer to thirty. At few points, we thought of just turning around but even turning around is twenty minutes away so we literally sat down in the grasses to rest for a while before continuing on.

We finally arrived, and to be very honest, we were a bit disappointed with Haji Lane. It was really small. Just a road, really. But they made for cute Instagram photos. It has this hipster vibes to it and everything was so pastel. I edited my photos to be contrasting though, but you can see all the hipsters photos on other blogs. The shops didn’t disappoint though! They were mostly clothes shops but I loved the ones that sells memorabilia and vintage finds. It wasn’t allowed to take photos inside the shops which is a bit sad, and we saw so many people doing fashion shoots.

We were only at Haji Lane for about an hour before trying to find a bus stop that’ll take us to City Hall. We passed by a mosque before finally finding a correct bus stop. We end the day by eating and doing a bit of shopping at City Hall.

Will you give Haji Lane a try?

We were disappointed the first time we’ve been to Haji Lane, too. The alley is so tiny, it gets easily crowded. Shopping and cafes are a bit pricey as well. But I agree, the walls and the colorful shops make for pretty insta shots. Perfect for OOTD’s and selfies. Hehe.

I’m so glad it wasn’t crowded when we visited! We only took photos, but since they were pricey, we decided to eat and shop somewhere else. Haha!

The painted walls looks so instagrammy~ hihi. I’ve heard Singapore is well known as one of the cleanest countries in the world and it clearly shows on your photos. The mosque looks cool too. I wish to visit this country in the future. By the way, how’s the traffic there? Is it as monstrous like Manila?

Definitely the cleanest country I’ve been to yet! You litter, you’ll be fined $500. They don’t even allow people to eat at the trains or buses! Haha.

NO TRAFFIC HERE!! Capslock para intense. Hahaha! I would seriously move to Singapore just for the fact that there’s no traffic jam no matter what time it is and I don’t have to wait an hour to ride a bus or train! Very different from Manila.

Is Haji Lane just a new spot in SG? Didn’t hear of it when we were in SG back in 2011. Anyway, I guess there are a lot of Haji Lane-like places here in PH. Sa mga underpass lang ng Makati at tsaka sa The Fort ang dami ng wall art eh. 🙂
