What Ilocos trip would it be if we didn’t visit the famous Bangui Windmills? I think it’s considered a mortal sin since the iconic windmills are included in every advertisement about the province! Fun fact: these windmills are said to be providing 40% of the electricity source for the entire Ilocos Norte!
While providing electricity to the province, the Bangui Windmills also boomed as a major tourist destination. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see these giants all lined up beside the bluest of the oceans? You got to admit that it makes for great photos plus you’ll be informed about wind energy!
Entrance is completely fee and there are plenty of stalls selling souvenirs. When we visited, it wasn’t that hot so we took our time looking through the mini-windmill magnets and cheap tourist shirts. Then, of course, plenty of photoshoots near the Bangui Windmills themselves. We might have also made our feet take a dip in the ocean but not more than a meter since the waves were really big!
Overall, it was a really good sidetrip! I’m not sure if the Bangui Windmills are the ones we saw a peek of when we were in Kapurpurawan Rock Formation.
